Flat weave rugs are created using a simple weaving method of
vertical (warp) and horizontal (weft) threads. The rugs tend to be thinner than
pile rugs and have a flat surface due to the absence of knots. The pile fibres
in flat weave rugs are firmly compressed to create a compact and durable rug.
Unlike pile rugs, the flat weave in the rug reduced furniture pressure marks
and reduces dirt entering the yarn. It is therefore a good choice for easy
maintenance and hoovering.
Flat weave rugs are created using materials such as wool,
cotton, acrylic and more. The wool material is preferred to other types
however. Flat weave rugs are not limited to colour and therefore an extensive
range can be found. Designs are derived from the natural surroundings, similar
to that of the Kashan and Gabbeh rugs.
Examples of flat weave rugs are Dhurries, Kilims and Sumaks.
Flat weave rugs looks especially brilliant hanging off walls, and ca be used as
a focal point in any great home.
